Sunset on Sturgeon Creek

Sunset on Sturgeon Creek

Snapped this quick shot with my iPhone 4s while visiting my girlfriend’s parents recently. They have a beautiful waterfront home on Sturgeon Creek, and the sun was just setting when we arrived for dinner.

I’ve been absent from my blog for several months, but hope to return to regular postings. I’ve missed this great community and all you have to offer.

Merrick Butte

Merrick Butte

Likely one of the most photographed landmarks of the American Southwest is Merrick Butte in Monument Valley, Arizona. As a follow-up to my previous post of the Mustang, I wanted to share another landscape of this beautiful country where such wild horses roam. This region of the U.S. is one of my favorite places, and I had no idea how incredibly colorful it was in my earlier years seeing it in black and white on John Ford films and TV westerns. I made this image in 2006 during a family vacation and have always liked the rich, saturated orange, browns and yellows in contrast with the baby blue Arizona sky. July 25, 2006.

Father & Son at Pippin Hill Vineyards

Father & Son at Pippin Hill Vineyards

Using his wine glass as a pointer, this father enjoys a precious moment with his son, whose short attention span is focused on some unseen object of interest on the painted landscape.

Delfosse Vineyards

Delfosse Vineyards

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Hickory Creek Valley south of Charlottesville, Virginia, Delfosse Winery seems like an Italian villa winery with its terraced vineyards and serene lake setting. Their premium wines are as spectacular as their mountain views. I took this shot last autumn from the porch of their hilltop cabin, which is available for weekend getaways.

Dublin Bay

20120508-190757.jpg

Arrived in Dublin this morning and after a nap to adjust from jet lag, I walked to Dublin Bay to photograph the birds and other wildlife at the Irishtown Nature Reserve. While walking along the shoreline path, I snapped this photo with my iPhone looking across the bay toward the city. Had my Nikon and will post other pics, including a sea lion that broke water with a fish in his mouth. Uploading this post from my iPhone while enjoying a pint of Guinness at a local pub.

Canyon de Chelly

Canyon de Chelly

This photo brings back memories of an amazing trip to the Southwest with my family several years ago. I was shooting with a Nikon D50 back then (which Jenny now uses). I’ve always liked the lush colors and stark lines in this photo.

Our Daily Bread

Our Daily Bread

My brother bought an old farmhouse on 60 acres in rural Virginia last year. They finally sold their house in suburbia and are now making their “new” old house a home. Last year the fields around the house were planted in wheat in the spring. Jenny and I stopped by one evening just when the sun was laying low on the horizon, casting a golden glow over the wheat field. I snapped several shots, but this one captured the color and texture that made me smile.

Water’s Edge

Water's Edge

My 13 year-old son made this image one evening along the shore of Broad Creek where we spend summers on our boat Sea Horse. I was amazed at the abstract quality he saw in the evening sun’s reflection off the water and wet sand. The contrast of shadow and gold light make this an unusual and striking photo.

A Grand View

This brave squirrel sat confidently on the edge, taking in the view from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Even nature can admire itself!
